John LancasterLearn to Turn

With John Lancaster, Registered Professional Turner

John is based in Ilfracombe, North Devon. He is one of the founder members of our club.

John was accepted onto the Register of Professional Turners in 2009 and has helped several club members improve their turning skills.

One of the aims of our club is to help people learn woodturning, together with the friendly club evenings once a month.

John runs a series of 2 hr. evening Woodturning classes for the beginner/improver lasting 8 weeks. (one session per week).

The tuition will be at each persons own speed so no one will be rushed or pressured to keep up.

For the beginner
This course is for those taking their first steps into woodturning but are unsure about wood selection, tools to use, techniques etc. We will run through safety in the workshop, the lathe and its components, accessories and tools plus sharpening. We will also discuss wood selection and how this affects your finished piece.

For the improver
This course is for those who have a sound knowledge of the principles, but wish to explore further and build on their skills. We will remain focussed on the correct use of tools and safety equipment and begin to look at hollow forms and natural edge vases.

I am happy to discuss your individual requirements and tailor the course to suit you.

Please contact John Lancaster at either 01271 863306 (6.0 in the evening catches me in) or email john.lancaster10@btinternet.com for further details.
